Chien-Chi Chang (b. 1961, Taichung, Taiwan) is a photographer, filmmaker, and visual artist based in Graz, Austria.

For more than three decades, drawing on his own experience as a migrant, immigrant, and outsider, Chang works closely and over long periods with the people he photographs. His long-term projects examine identity, migration, conflict, and the ties that connect and divide us. Nominated to Magnum Photos in 1995, he became a full member of the agency in 2001.

His work has been shown at the Venice Biennale, São Paulo Biennial, and National Museum of Singapore, and is held in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Taipei Fine Arts Museum, and National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts.

His practice spans photography, film, sound, and installation. “Still images can be moving, and moving images can be still,” he says. “Both meet within the soundscape.”
